A Shenandoah man will not have to spend time in prison after being sentenced Thursday in Schuylkill County Court on four charges, including driving under the influence.
Joshua A. Phillips, 27, must spend six months on probation under the terms of Judge James P. Goodman's sentence.
Goodman also sentenced Phillips to pay costs, $550 in fines and $100 to the Substance Abuse Education Fund.
In a one-day nonjury trial, Goodman had found Phillips guilty on Nov. 21, 2012, of DUI, driving under suspension, violation of general lighting requirements and restraint systems violation.
State police at Frackville had alleged Phillips was DUI with a suspended license on April 7, 2012. Assistant District Attorney Jennifer N. Lehman said Phillips' blood alcohol level was 0.089 percent; the legal limit in Pennsylvania is 0.08 percent.
Also on Thursday, Jose A. Diaz-Vazquez, 38, of Mahanoy City, pleaded guilty to possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Judge Cyrus Palmer Dolbin accepted the plea and sentenced Diaz-Vazquez to time served to 12 months in prison with immediate parole and payment of costs, a $100 SAEF payment and a $50 bench warrant fee.
Mahanoy City police had charged Diaz-Vazquez with possessing marijuana and paraphernalia on Dec. 23, 2011, in the borough.
In another Thursday case, Jeremy H. Shechtman, 31, of Tucson, Ariz., pleaded guilty to possessing a prohibited offensive weapon and possession of a controlled substance, with prosecutors withdrawing a charge of DUI.
Dolbin accepted Shechtman's plea, placed him on probation for five years and also sentenced him to pay costs, a $100 SAEF payment, $50 to the Criminal Justice Enhancement Account and a $50 bench warrant fee.
State police at Schuylkill Haven had charged Shechtman with possessing the weapon and the drugs on April 3, 2011.
