Minersville man faces charges

MINERSVILLE - Minersville police filed charges against a 41-year-old borough man stemming from separate incidents in the borough earlier this month.

In connection with an incident Jan. 3, police said they charged Baljinder Singh Matharu, 10 N. Fourth St., with two counts of defiant trespass.

Police said the man's home had the water shut off after he issued a bad check and the home was deemed unfit for human habitation Jan. 2. That same day, police said they found the man's wife, Jessica Matharu, and her children inside the home that was posted against trespassing.

The woman was warned but the following day, Matharu, his wife and children were again found inside the home with the no trespassing sign lying in the kitchen.

Then, on Tuesday, police charged Baljinder Matharu with theft of services and receiving stolen property after finding out he illegally turned on the water service to the home despite not paying the bill.

Charges against Baljinder Matharu will be filed with Magisterial District Judge David A. Plachko, Port Carbon, police said.

Arrigo was turning left from the Hess gas station onto Lehigh Avenue traveling north when she drove across two lanes of traffic, hitting the Mazda in the driver's side. Harhigh was turning from Altamont Boulevard onto Lehigh Avenue driving north, police said.

Truck driver charged in crash

HAMBURG - A passenger in a car suffered minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to a hospital after an accident in the borough Sunday.

State police at Hamburg said the 11:03 a.m. accident took place on Interstate 78, 623 feet west of Port Clinton Avenue as a car driven by Antony Muya, 27, of Brockton, Mass., changed lanes and hit a car driven by Timothy Grant, 60, of Lake Hoptakong, N.J.

As the 2007 Freightliner, Columbia truck driven by Muya changed moved from the left lane to the right, the right front of the vehicle struck the left rear of the 2012 Toyota Camry. This caused the Camry to travel about 145 feet west and hit a concrete barrier and north wall, police said. It then stopped blocking the right lane of Interstate 78 west.

The truck stopped in the left lane. The passenger of the Camry, Carol Grant, 59, of Lake Hoptakong, N.J., was transported by Hamburg Ambulance to the St. Joseph's Hospital. Both drivers refused medical treatment. All were wearing seat belts, police said.

The accident had the right lane of I-78 west closed for about 35 minutes, police said.
