Accidents were common Wednesday as snow, sleet and freezing rain fell across Schuylkill County.
"We had almost everything. It was a real mess," said John LaCorte, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, State College.
Snow measurements from NWS showed 4 inches fell in Tamaqua and 4.2 inches fell in Mahanoy City.
"It wasn't a tiny storm by any means," LaCorte said, adding that no snow is predicted for the rest of this week.
Monday, however, has a 30 percent chance of snow showers.
"By next week, we're talking high temps back into the 20s," LaCorte said.
Sunny skies are on the horizon for the next couple of days. The high today is expected to be 37 degrees and Friday's high will be near 28. Saturday will reach near 40 degrees and Sunday's high will be in the 30s, according to NWS.
Vehicle accidents averaged "about one an hour" Wednesday morning, a supervisor with the Schuylkill County Communications Center said of accidents that occurred between midnight and 11 a.m.
Due to the snowy roads, most of the schools in the county had a two-hour delay.
The first accident was reported at 3:25 a.m. along Interstate 81 but most of the accidents were minor, he said.
"It was all over the place," the supervisor said in describing the locations of the accidents.
One of those accidents was at 10 a.m. on Brick Hill Road in West Brunswick Township.
State police at Schuylkill Haven said the accident occurred as John Ulrich, 28, of Mahanoy City, drove his 1994 Ford Ranger XLT east on Brick Hill Road and lost control due to the snow and slush on the road. The vehicle spun clockwise and exited the north berm, striking an embankment, becoming airborne and flipping onto its roof and hitting a utility pole. The vehicle ended up facing south on its roof on the north berm, police said. Ulrich was not hurt and was wearing a seat belt, police said.
Responding to the scene were Orwigsburg EMS and Friendship Hose Company No. 1, Orwigsburg, police said.
