A 21-year-old Reading man charged in connection with a robbery in Pottsville on Nov. 13 is among those scheduled to plead not guilty Monday during arraignment in Schuylkill County Court.
Rasheem Shabazz Smalls, 21, of 108 W. Douglass St., Second Floor, was arrested by Pottsville police Patrolman Eugene Yourey and charged with robbery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, illegal possession of firearms, carrying firearms without a license, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, terroristic threats, simple assault, theft, receiving stolen property, possession of a controlled substance and possession of a small amount of marijuana.
Yourey charged Smalls with approaching Michelle Terenchin in the 300 block of Sanderson Street, pulling out a firearm and robbing Terenchin of $50.
The woman told police she followed Smalls to an apartment at 589 Laurel Terrace, where William Murphy, her fiance, arrived and wanted to confront Smalls. Yourey said Smalls came to a window, again brandished the weapon and threatened to shoot Miller, Yourey said.
Officers later found a loaded .22-caliber handgun along with amounts of marijuana and cocaine in the apartment, Yourey said.
In addition, Smalls is scheduled to appear for arraignment on charges of terroristic threats and simple assault stemming from an unrelated incident in Pottsville.
