n Schuylkill Haven: The Island Park Committee set its 2013 fundraisers and appointed officers during a reorganization meeting Thursday. Those appointed to the board were Schuylkill County Commissioner Gary J. Hess, chairman; Mayor Mike Devlin, co-chairman; Gloria Ebling, treasurer, and Christine Hess, secretary. The 2013 schedule of events includes: The annual chicken barbecue and Schuylkill River sojourn, 4 p.m. to sellout May 31; the third annual car show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 23; Island Park Festival 2013 from 1 to 10 p.m. Aug. 24 featuring the Mahoney Brothers as entertainers for the day; a fall festival from Oct. 18 to Oct. 20. Additional events are still being planned and will be announced. The committee is also planning an endowment fund to pay for general upkeep of the park. More than $16,000 was made in 2012 and the committee hopes for another successful year in 2013. Anyone looking to join the committee or volunteer is welcome to attend a meeting. Meetings are held at 6:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month at the Recreation/Senior Center, Haven Street.

n Shenandoah: Trinity Academy in the Father Walter J. Ciszek Education Center, Cherry and Chestnut streets, will sponsor an all-you-care-to-eat breakfast beginning at 8 a.m. Thursday in the school cafeteria. The breakfast is in conjunction with the celebration of Catholic Schools Week. The cost is $8 for adults and $5 for children 6 to 12. The menu will include eggs, potatoes, bacon, sausage, pancakes, French toast and other items, with table service by Trinity students. All proceeds will benefit the regional parochial school, which serves all of northern Schuylkill County.
