McCann

Three graduates of the Pottsville campus of McCann School of Business & Technology are now certified through the National Healthcareer Association.

Barb McGlade, Mahanoy City, is a certified medical laboratory assistant through the NHA.

Sabrina Brotzman, Hamburg, and Stephanie Foulk, Brockton, are certified phlebotomy technicians. Sabrian graduated with a medical assisting associate degree as well as a phlebotomy diploma in December. Stephanie recently graduated with a phlebotomy diploma.

Nativity

A Nativity BVM High School senior is the winner of the Diocese of Allentown's 30th annual "Stand Up For Life" essay contest.

Mariah Sabol won first place in the senior division for students in grades nine through 12, receiving a $200 prize.

Three other Schuylkill County Catholic school students were regional winners and received certificates. Eric Wychulis, a Nativity senior, was a senior division regional winner. Maizy Troxell and John Burns, both seventh-graders at St. Jerome Regional School, Tamaqua, were regional winners in the junior division for students in grades 7 and 8.

The theme of this year's contest in the senior division was "Speaking the Word of Hope." The junior division theme was "Defending Life within a Culture of Death."

The Knights of Columbus and the Diocese of Allentown's Office of Pro-Life Activities and Social Concerns sponsor the contest, which is intended to stimulate awareness of life issues among young people. The contest is open to all students in grades 7 through 12 in diocesan schools, religious education classes and the home school network.

This year's winners were chosen from among 830 entries, and the Knights judge the contest. The awards were presented at a banquet in West Lawn on Jan. 20.

Milton Hershey

Jessica Bell, Pottsville, a junior at Milton Hershey School, was one of 20 students inducted into the National Honor Society at a special ceremony held in Founders Hall on the MHS Campus.

Jessica is a member of the school's cross country, winter track and soccer teams. She is also consistently listed in the school's distinguished honor roll/effort and conduct lists.

She is a daughter of Terri Bell, Pottsville.
