PORT CARBON - Schuylkill County Crime Stoppers and Port Carbon police are asking for the public's help in finding the person or persons responsible for a theft of a large amount of copper earlier this month.
Police said the theft occurred between 5:30 p.m. Jan. 7 and 7:30 a.m. Jan. 8 in the 100 block of Spruce Street in the borough.
Police said someone went to the site and stole about 1,000 pounds of No. 1 copper and then fled the scene.
Police said they theorize that the thief or thieves parked a pickup truck along an adjacent railroad bed, loaded the copper into the vehicle and then drove off.
Schuylkill County Crime Stoppers will pay up to $1,000 for information on the identity of the person or persons responsible for this theft or on any unsolved crime in Schuylkill County.
Callers are asked to refer to incident 01-27-13 when calling with information about the theft of the copper from Port Carbon.
