MINERSVILLE - The Minersville Area school board approved a change order Tuesday night for the extension of the contract with Richard L. Sensenig Co. for the junior-senior high school roof project.
The company shut down the project for the winter and the work is expected to resume June 17 with "substantial completion" expected by July 16.
Business Manager Jennifer C. Laudeman said that the high school roof is being renovated and that it's part of a project with four roofs at the elementary center.
The total cost of the project is about $459,000.
Laudeman said that the work on the elementary center hasn't started yet.
The board also authorized the second payment for the roof replacement in the amount of $106,847.50, while the final payment was said to be ready June 31.
During the public comment part of the meeting, Mike Wollyung, Llewellen Road, Branch Township, addressed the board to urge them to reinstate golf at the high school for the next school year.
The golf program was dropped last year.
Wollyung, a father of three students in the school district, said it was his understanding that the longtime head coach had retired and a replacement couldn't be found, although he wasn't sure if that was the only reason.
He said that he had no idea they were looking for a coach and that he was told there was a notice posted on the district website and on the sign on the Pottsville-Minersville Highway, but that was it.
He has spoken to a possible candidate who is interested, but had no idea the position was open.
Wollyung wanted the board to know that there is still interest in a golf team at Minersville and that his oldest son would be entering the high school next year and wanted to join, who also has had been preparing by going to camps.
Board President Albert J. Wank said the board would look into the matter.
