17 women vie for Queen of Snows title

The 2013 Greater Pottsville Winter Carnival concludes Saturday with the Senior Princess Coronation Pageant and Queen's Ball.

At the pageant, one of 17 women will be crowned Queen of Snows. The pageant begins at 7 p.m. in the Pottsville Area High School auditorium. The ball will follow at 10 p.m. at the Pottsville Club.

The following are the 2013 senior princess candidates:

Carissa Artz, 29, of Minersville, is a daughter of Curtis and Christine Artz. She received a bachelor's degree in English and history from Misericordia University, Dallas, Luzerne County, a master's degree in English literature from Villanova University and a master's degree in special education from St. Joseph's University. A high school English and history teacher, she is sponsored by the Pottsville Area Development Corp.

Shannon Brophy, 23, of Minersville, is a daughter of Connie and Marty Brophy. She is a 2007 graduate of Minersville Area High School and a 2011 graduate of St. Franics University, Loretto. An 11th-grade special education teacher at Minersville Area High School, she is sponsored by Reliable Home Supply.

Danielle Buchwalter, 24, of Orwigsburg, is a daughter of John and Donna Buchwalter. A graduate of Blue Mountain High School and Penn State University, she is employed as a server at Red Robin and a substitute teacher in the Saint Clair Area School District. She is sponsored by the Ancient Order of Hibernians.

Alycia Catizone, 19, of Girardville, is a daughter of Jen Opuda. A graduate of North Schuylkill High School, she is attending McCann School of Business & Technology, which is her sponsor.

Meghan Corson, 26, of Orwigsburg, is a daughter of Mike and Cheryl Bouman and Jim and Maggie Corson. A graduate of Kutztown University with a bachelor's degree in elementary education, she is a longterm substitute teacher at John S. Clarke Elementary Center. She is sponsored by Juliette Bridals by Ivana, Pottsville.

Stephanie Crighton, 21, of Pottsville, is a daughter of Lynn Crighton and James Quandel. She is a 2009 graduate of Pottsville Area High School and is attending Kutztown University, majoring in special education/elementary education. She is sponsored by Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Pottsville.

Sarah Dalley, 21, of Shenandoah, is a daughter of Michael and Sharon Dalley. Attending Bloomsburg University, majoring in American sign language/English interpreting, she is employed by Knoebels Amusement Resort, Elysburg. She is sponsored by White Pear.

Ashley Felker, 28, of Pottsville, is a daughter of Norm and Sophie Felker. She is a graduate of Winthrop University with a bachelor's degree in communication disorders and a graduate of Bloomsburg University with a master's degree in speech and language pathology. A member of the training and consultation staff at Schuylkill Intermediate Unit 29, she is sponsored by Norm Felker Masonry.

Jesselyn Heaps, 22, of Pottsville, is a daughter of Robert Heaps and Amber Fink. A graduate of Pottsville Area High School, she is attending Penn State Schuylkill. She is employed as a salesperson at Blue Mountain Ski Resort and as a per diem investigator with the Public Defenders Office in Pottsville. She is sponsored by Pottsville Business Association.

Samantha Jansson, 25, of Cumbola, is a daughter of George and MaryAnn Jansson. She is a graduate of Susquehanna University, Selinsgrove, with a bachelor's degree in business administration and is pursuing her master's degree in speech language pathology. An intern at Pottsville Area School District, she is sponsored by Pottsville Kiwanis Club.

Alicia Karabinas, 29, of Frackville, is a daughter of James and Patricia Keller. A graduate of University of Texas, she is enrolled in the nursing home administrator program at York College. She is employed as director of admissions at York Terrace Golden Living Center and is sponsored by Palermo's Restaurant.

Jenna Lescavage, 23, of Minersville, is a daughter of Michelle and Bernard Lescavage. A graduate of Juniata College with a bachelor's degree in health services and communication, she plans to graduate in May from St. Francis University with a master's degree in health science. She is sponsored by Barefield Development Corp.

Corene Parrish, 20, of Schuylkill Haven, is a daughter of Dee Holley and Terrance Parrish. A 2010 graduate of Schuylkill Haven Area High School, she is a junior at West Chester University, majoring in cell and molecular biology. Employed by On the Border restaurant, she is sponsored by D.G. Yuengling & Son Inc.

Lauren Pope, 27, of Pottsville, is a daughter of Denise and Andy Pope. A graduate of Penn State University with a bachelor's degree in elementary education with a special education certificate from East Stroudsburg University, she is a middle school emotional support teacher at KidsPeace. She is sponsored by Rotary Club of Pottsville.

Sierra Salle, 19, of Kaska, is a daughter of Teri and Leo Salle. She is a graduate of Pottsville Area High School and is attending Penn State Schuylkill, majoring in criminal justice. She is a cashier at Dunkin' Donuts and is sponsored by the Bowers Motorcycle Supplies.

Brooke Shilling, 23, of Pottsville, is a daughter of Patricia Shilling and Bill Shilling. She is a graduate of Pottsville Area High School and is in her last semester at Penn State University, majoring in business administration with a concentration in marketing. She is sponsored by Smokers Heaven.

Jessica Weiss, 20, of Minersville, is a daughter of Janet and Edward Mitchell. A junior at Kutztown University, majoring in community studies, she is sponsored by Reading Anthracite Co.
