Armed robber takes cash from Tamaqua mini mart

TAMAQUA - An armed robber made off with money early Sunday from the cash registers at Fegley's Mini Mart and a Dunkin' Donuts shop that shares the same building along Route 309.

The robbery is the second at the store in less than a month. On Jan. 20, a masked gunman robbed the store and fled with an undetermined amount of cash.

Tamaqua police said the latest robbery occurred about 1:15 a.m. when a man wearing a green, North Face jacket entered with a bandana over his face, pulled out a weapon and demanded cash. Police said the man fled after getting the money. No injuries were reported.

He was described as about 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing about 200 pounds, police said, adding that bandana covering his face was black and white and he had a black hood pulled up over his head.

Two days earlier, a man wearing a red ski mask and black North Face coat robbed the Turkey Hill Minit Mart in Hometown about 2:10 a.m. and then, at 3:18 a.m., robbed the Frackville Exxon/Uni-Mart store just south of Frackville in West Mahanoy Township.

In the Hometown robbery, Rush Township police said the man was about 6 feet tall with a stocky build, possibly between 215 and 220 pounds. The shoulders of his black coat were gray. Police said he had the hood of the coat pulled over his head and was wearing worn jeans and brown work boots.

In West Mahanoy Township, state police at Frackville said the robber man was dark-skinned and about 6 feet tall with a medium build. He was also wearing the red ski mask and a black jacket that was zipped up to his chin. The jacket had a North Face emblem.

In all three robberies police in the respective jurisdictions said the man fled on foot and it was not known whether or not he later fled in a vehicle.

Authorities did no say if they believe the man responsible for Sunday's robbery is the same man who pulled off the other heists on Jan. 20 at Fegley's in Tamaqua or the robberies of the Hometown and West Mahanoy businesses.

However, two other robberies are attributed to the same man who committed Friday's holdups.

On Jan. 26, McAdoo police said a man entered the Fegley's Minit Mart on about 9:15 p.m., pointed a black handgun at the clerk and demanded money. He made off with an undetermined amount of money, cigarettes, a pack of Mentos gum and a cigarette lighter.

Police said the man was wearing a red ski mask, blue jeans, boots and a black hoodie and had a soft voice. They said it is believed the man had facial hair, possibly a goatee.

In the Jan. 20 robbery at the Tamaqua Fegley's store borough police said a man armed with a handgun entered about 10:20 p.m., demanded money from the clerk and then fled. He was described as having dark skin and wearing a black jacket, blue jeans and a white bandana over his nose and mouth. Inside the store the man picked up two drinks, placed them on the counter and then pulled out the gun and demanded money before fleeing.

In yet another heist, which occurred Jan. 29, a man fitting the same description used a semi automatic weapon to rob the Wawa convenience store along Route 940 in Kidder Township, Carbon County. The man was described as between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet tall. He was wearing a red ski mask, a black North Face brand jacket with gray shoulders, faded jeans and boots.
