This is our 1,900th volunteer column. That’s a lot of volunteer opportunities, events and announcements that have been shared over the years. My predecessor Nancy Clark did a wonderful job over the years, and I look forward to reporting nonprofit items for years to come.
Mark your calendars. In recognition of the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, the Schuylkill County Historical Society is planning a bus trip to the Civil War Museum in Harrisburg in March, date TBD. Call 622-7540 for details or to reserve your seat.
Schuylkill on the Move invites you to join them on their Tuscarora Trek at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Walk the Old Log Trail and enjoy the winter scenery. As always, dress for weather conditions and take your camera. Call 622-4124 for details.
Do you have some extra blood you’d like to give to those who could use some? There’s a blood drive tomorrow at the Christ’s United Lutheran Church in Ashland. Additional drives will be held at St. Patrick’s Church in Pottsville on Wednesday and Thursday, at the Schuylkill Medical Center East Norwegian on Friday and at the Schuylkill Mall on Saturday. Anyone in general good health, weighing at least 110 pounds is encouraged to donate.
Downtown Shenandoah’s monthly soup sale will take place Thursday, starting at 10 a.m. A variety of soups will be available. Call 462-2060 to place your order.
Enjoy concerto music? Well, you’re in luck. The Gabriel Chamber Ensemble will present Beethoven and other composers at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Jerusalem Lutheran Church in Schuylkill Haven. Call 943-2558 for details.
