in accident
SCHUYLKILL HAVEN - A 19-year-old Philadelphia man was flown to Lehigh Valley Medical Center with unknown injuries after being struck by a vehicle at 5:36 a.m. Sunday on Route 61 at University Drive in North Manheim Township.
State police at Schuylkill Haven are investigating the crash that involved Joshua Rivera and Richard Mattes, 54, of Frackville, who was driving a 1995 Chevrolet Aveo that struck Rivera.
Police said also present at the scene was Liberty Fire Company, Schuylkill Hose No. 2, Rainbow Fire Company, Penn State police, Schuylkill Haven police, Pottsville/Schuylkill Haven EMS and Medivac 7.
As of 8:30 p.m., a hospital representative said they did not have a patient there by the name of Rivera.
The investigation is ongoing.
Woman charged
with possession
MAHANOY CITY - A 27-year-old woman was charged and incarcerated following an incident at 11:10 a.m. Sunday at SCI/Mahanoy, 301 Morea Road, Mahanoy Township.
State police at Frackville said that Alicia M. Rivera, Freemansburg, entered the prison at 11 a.m. Sunday to visit an inmate.
During a search by staff, it revealed she was in possession of seven orange pills suspected to be "Suboxone" and 16 individual baggies of Heroine.
Rivera and the evidence were transported to the state police at Frackville station for further investigation, police said.
Charges were filed against Rivera for two felony charges, possession with intent to deliver and contraband, police said.
Two misdemeanor charges, drug possession and drug paraphernalia were also filed against her, police said.
She was also being detained because of a probation violation from Lehigh County, police said.
Rivera was transported to the Schuylkill County Prison awaiting her preliminary hearing, police said.
She was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Stephen J. Bayer, Tamaqua, who set her bail at $25,000 straight cash.
