Barnesville: Water hydrants and restrooms that were recently closed at Tuscarora State Park due to a water line break have reopened, according to Lewis H. Williams, park manager. McAdoo: People still have time to participate in the McAdoo High School monument project and gain broad ownership of the monument to be erected on the site where the high school once stood. A ceremony will be held June 10 at the East Sherman Street site. Donations of any amount will be appreciated and donations in memory of loved ones also are being accepted. Pottsville: The Schuylkill County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees is participating in the statewide PASR's 75th anniversary scholarship program. PASR members are Schuylkill County retirees who worked in public schools and had a positive influence on commonwealth students, according to a press release. The scholarship, for $500, will be awarded to a resident of Schuylkill County who is currently a junior pursuing a degree in public education at an accredited Pennsylvania college or university. To be considered for the award, the student must be enrolled in a public education program, such as elementary or secondary education. Qualified applicants should send a letter of interest requesting a PASR 75th anniversary scholarship application. Saint Clair: The Saint Clair Community and Historical Society will participate in the Schuylkill County History Fair slated for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Fairlane Village mall. In a release, society President Ted Thorn said the Saint Clair display will showcase the history of education and the schools, public and parochial. It will feature photos of the school buildings and of children in the classrooms years ago. It will also include yearbooks and other memorabilia. There will also be yearbooks for sale. The 2011 Christmas ornament will be available for purchase. It is in memory of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on America and honors the first responders, making it of interest to everyone, Thorn said. The ornament was designed by Vincent Allessi, EMS member from Saint Clair. Lois Gray, society membership chairwoman, reminded members that the 2012 dues are being collected and can be dropped off at borough hall or the society building or given to any member. Dues are $5 a year and can also be mailed to Gray. New members are always welcome. Winter hours at the society building are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays and Saturdays. There will be no Thursday evening hours until April 12. In the event of severe weather on Tuesdays or Saturdays, call the society at 570-624-6571 to be sure someone was able open the building.
