The Republican-Herald has been named the flagship print property of 2012 by Times-Shamrock Communications.
Members of the Times-Shamrock Advisory Board, which includes publishers from across the Scranton-based media company, reviewed Times-Shamrock's print properties, nominating newspapers that stood out for financial results and quality journalism before announcing the award earlier this month.
"This is the second time The Republican-Herald has won this award in the last four years out of more than 26 properties, representing dailies, community newspapers and alternative weeklies," Henry H. Nyce, publisher of The Republican-Herald, said.
"It's the people I work with that make this newspaper the winning flagship. They are a passionate, hard-working group and work diligently not only to better our publication, but also to improve our overall community," he said.
Even with the recognition, Nyce said the team strives for continued improvement.
"Each and every person on this staff is pursuing ways to make our newspaper, republicanherald.com, our R-H mobile app and Schuylkill Living magazine a better experience for our readers," he said.
The 2012 Flagship Award is the pinnacle of a list of awards for 2012 and includes the advertising department winning four first-place awards, two second-place awards and one third-place award from the Pennsylvania Newsmedia Association and Dawn Fisher, Cathy Scheipe and Cathy Christ winning the Golden Shamrock award for excellence in advertising consultancy.
The Marketing & Community Services department won first- and second-place awards for Newspaper of the Year from PNA, and a second-place award for the National Newspaper Week campaign.
