Gilberton man
jailed in assault
GILBERTON - A borough man was jailed Monday on charges that he assaulted a 21-year-old woman, police said.
State police at Frackville said Paul Chicora, 30, was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Anthony J. Kilker, Shenandoah, on charges of simple assault and harassment and committed to Schuylkill County Prison unable to post 10 percent of $25,000 bail.
Police said the woman reported that about 4:15 a.m., Chicora began abusing her in a home at 6 Long Row and assaulted her by pushing her to the ground grabbing at her face and pulling her hair while he was on top of her. The man also burned the woman's cheek with a lit cigarette and threw her on the bed and choked her, police said.
Chicora left the home for several hours but returned and continued to fight with the woman, pushing her into a wall causing her to go through and leave a body impression in the drywall, police said.
The woman called 911 and police found Chicora hiding in the basement, police said.
The woman suffered bruises on her face and neck and a burn on her face, police said.
Hamburg man
not hurt in crash
FRACKVILLE - A Hamburg man escaped injury when the 2004 Dodge Dakota he was driving crashed in the southbound lanes of Interstate 81 at mile marker 124 in West Mahanoy Township at 4:45 a.m. Saturday, police said.
State police at Frackville said Paul Snyder, 35, was driving south when he lost control while going over an ice-covered bridge, causing his pickup truck to veer to the right and hit the wall of the bridge.
The impact damaged the truck's engine compartment, police said, adding that Snyder will be cited as a result of the crash.
Stillwater man
escapes injury
FRACKVILLE - State police at Frackville said a Stillwater man escaped injury when he struck a parked car on Spencer Street in West Mahanoy Township at 12:05 a.m. Sunday.
Police said John Marino, 31, was driving a 1998 Subaru Outback west on Oak Street in dense fog when he failed to drive in a left curve, went onto Spencer Street and struck a legally parked 2010 Dodge Avenger.
Marino was not injured but will receive a citation as a result of the crash, police said.
Oil voucher
taken from door
GIRARDVILLE - State police at Frackville are investigating a theft that occurred at 126 W. Ogden St. between 5 and 7 p.m. Monday.
Police said a borough woman reported that someone removed a voucher for 100 gallons of heating oil from her front door and fled the area.
