n Mahanoy City: Kindergarten registration has been scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. as follows: March 25, children whose last names begin with A to G; March 26, H to O; March 27, P to Z. For kindergarten, children must be 5 years old by Sept. 1. Children who will enter first grade but did not attend kindergarten also must register according to the aforementioned schedule. For first grade, children must be 6 years old by Sept. 1. For registration, parents/guardians will need the child's birth certificate, immunization records verified by a doctor and two forms of proof of residency in the school district. More on the registration requirements are available online at www.mabears.net. It is not necessary for children to attend registration. Children will be scheduled for screenings later, according to a school district press release.

n Minersville: The Minersville Public Library, 220 S. Fourth St., recently acknowledged the following memorials: For Margaret Doyle from Ann Marie Studlack, David and Georgine Studlack; for Edward Kubilus from Ann Marie Studlack, David and Georgine Studlack; for Jack and Mary Alice Bernetskie; for Julia Lil Gerchal from Helen Socko and family.

n Orwigsburg: The St. Paul's Lutheran Church Concert Series will continue at 7 p.m. Sunday featuring the Reading Choral Society under the direction of Peter Hopkins. Founded in 1875, the society is one of America's oldest musical ensembles, according to a press release. The concert is free and open to the public. Freewill offerings will be gratefully accepted. n Pottsville: The Pottsville Rotary Club will hold a membership mixer meeting from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Maroons Sports Bar upstairs. Appetizers will be served and one complimentary drink will be provided by the club, then there will be a cash bar. Rotarians, according to the club bulletin, are encouraged to attend and bring a prospective member.

n Pottsville: The Schuylkill County Historical Society recently acknowledged the following memorial donation: For Andrew Dudish from Rick and Sue Jochems.

n Primrose: The St. Joseph Learning Center, Pottsville, a Catholic school for children with autism and special needs, will sponsor an Irish gala from 6 to 11 p.m. March 16 in St. Nicholas Hall. The admission fee includes meal, drinks and adult beverages of wine and beer. There will be silent and live auctions as well as big prizes. Irish dancers from the McCormick School of Irish Dance will perform. People or businesses can sponsor raffle prize items or be a sponsor and advertise in the gala program. n Shenandoah: Food donations are always needed at the offices of parishes, which provide packages of groceries and diapers to local people in need. Donations of nonperishable food items can be deposited in any of the Catholic churches on weekends in boxes provided in the foyers/vestibules. Examples of useful items include tuna, Spam, canned meats, powdered milk, peanut butter and jelly, cereal and similar fare. The offices of parishes are at 129 S. Jardin St. and 108 W. Cherry St.

n Shenandoah: The Greater Shenandoah Area Historical Society will present a program featuring the County Schuylkill Ceili Dancers at 6 p.m. Tuesday at its history center, 201 S. Main St. The public is invited.

n Tamaqua: The Tamaqua-Panther Valley Songfest will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church, 124 W. Broad St. A Welsh cookie and tea reception will be held following the concert. For more information, call Marilyn Felosci at 570-668-3121.

n Weston: The Weston Athletic Association recently met in the Nuremberg/Weston Volunteer Fire Company building. The group intends to fix the roof on the dance hall at the WAA Community Park. Each panel for the project is $68 and interested parties can buy a panel to help facilitate the project.
