MINERSVILLE - A Pottsville man surrendered Thursday to city police for arrest warrants issued by Minersville police after a drug sweep operation earlier in the week.

Matthew J. Laub, 22, whose last known address was 420 E. Market St., was arraigned on three warrants, each charging him with one felony count of delivery of a controlled substance and a misdemeanor charge of possession of a controlled substance.

Laub was arraigned by on-call Magisterial District Judge Anthony J. Kilker, Shenandoah, and committed to Schuylkill County Prison in lieu of 10 percent of $75,000 bail, $25,000 for each of the three warrants.

Laub was one of six people sought by Minersville police on Tuesday morning for their roles in selling illegal narcotics in the borough.

Police said that on Feb. 19, Laub sold six small bags of heroin to an undercover officer for $120 in the area of the Fuel Up store. Then, on Feb. 21, police said Laub sold an undercover officer seven small bags of heroin for $150 in the same area of the borough.

The following day, on Feb. 22, police said Laub sold an undercover officer eight small bags of heroin for $150 from a vehicle in the first block of South Front Street.

In addition to Laub, officers could not find Maegan E. Azbell, 21, of 232 Nicholas St., Saint Clair.

Police said that a warrant was obtained for Azbell, as well, and the woman contacted authorities and will surrender in the next several days.

Police said that on Jan. 31, in the 600 block of Sunbury Street, Azbell was given $49 by an undercover officer for the purchase of seven Percocet pills. She left the area to get the medication and never returned.

Taken into custody Tuesday were Jennifer Roman, 28, of 630 Lewis St., Minersville; Jaxson R. Detweiler, 28, of 9 Stanton St., Schuylkill Haven; Holly M. McGovern, 29, of 210 Pine St., Apt. B, Minersville; and Brandon M. Kneas, 26, whose last known address was 313 Pine Hill St., Minersville.

Police said that their investigation into the sale of illegal narcotics in the borough is ongoing and ask that anyone with information on this activity to call 570-544-2333.
