ORWIGSBURG - The two-day warrant sweep from the office of Magisterial District Judge James R. Ferrier succeeded overwhelmingly, the judge said Monday.

Ferrier said the state police, municipal police departments and constables collected $24,909.23 during the sweep on Thursday and Friday.

"I think so," Ferrier said of it being the most productive sweep ever conducted from his office.

He said the best previous sweep collected approximately $22,000.

Ferrier said police and constables served 133 warrants during the sweep, plus two bench warrants for Kyle J. Shirey, 26, of Pottsville, who had failed to appear on Jan. 25 in Schuylkill County Court for pre trial conferences.

Shirey, who faces two separate charges of theft, spent Thursday night in prison before being released Friday on bail with conditions.

State police from the Frackville and Schuylkill Haven stations, police from Orwigsburg, Schuylkill Haven and West Penn Township, and constables participated in the sweep, according to Ferrier.

He said he had not had a warrant sweep since March 2012, in part because of the expansion of his district. However, he said he would try to do one or two more this year.

Ferrier said many people made their payments through one of two new systems: n-Court, which allows them to pay by telephone, and e-Pay, which allows them to pay by computer. Some of them even paid directly from their residences, he said.

Ferrier's district includes Auburn, Cressona, Deer Lake, Landingville, New Ringgold, Orwigsburg, Port Clinton and Schuylkill Haven boroughs and East Brunswick, North Manheim, South Manheim, Walker, Wayne, West Brunswick and West Penn townships.
