Pedestrian killed
on Interstate 83
Police believe a 27-year-old man from McAdoo walking along the berm of Interstate 83 south Saturday ran into traffic, where he was hit by a vehicle.
State police at Harrisburg said they are not sure why the man entered the southbound traffic lanes near the 13th Street exit and mile marker 43.
Police have not released his name pending notification of kin.
Police said they responded to the incident about 10:51 a.m. and found the man was hit by a Chevrolet sedan and killed.
The impact sent the man over the jersey barrier and onto the northbound lanes, though no other vehicles hit him, police said. The driver of the vehicle who hit the man stopped and is cooperating with police, who continue to investigate the crash.

Armbruster was taken to St. Luke's Hospital-Miners Campus, Coaldale, where a blood test gave positive readings for marijuana resulting in him being charged with DUI-controlled substance, possession of a small amount of marijuana and summary traffic offenses.
A passenger in the vehicle, Richard Armbruster, 56, of Bethlehem, was charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Saint Clair woman
charged with theft
SAINT CLAIR - Saint Clair police filed charges against a 26-year-old borough woman after an incident on Feb. 23.
Police said officers were called to Wal-Mart for a theft in progress and spoke to witnesses who said a woman entered the changing room, put on multiple layers of clothing with the price tags still on and then left the fitting rooms that way.
The woman, later identified as Amy Merenda, was also in possession of a handbag with the price tags as well as cosmetics that were removed from store packaging, police said.
Merenda then walked through the registers with a male companion and failed to pay for the items, police said, adding that when exiting the store, Merenda took a bouquet of flowers from a case and failed to pay for them as well.
The woman was stopped by police and charged with retail theft for items valued at $251.40, police said.
It was determined Merenda had two previous felony convictions for retail theft and was formally issued a no trespass order by Wal-Mart forbidding her from even being on store property.
In addition to the retail theft charge, police said the woman was charged with criminal trespass and receiving stolen property and will have to answer before Magisterial District Judge David A. Plachko, Port Carbon.
Pottsville man
charged with DUI
SAINT CLAIR - A traffic stop by Saint Clair police on Feb. 23 resulted in charges being filed against a 22-year-old Pottsville man.
Police said Jeremy Cappel was charged with DUI-highest rate and several traffic citations after he was seen the Dodge pickup truck on Second Street toward Port Carbon at a high rate of speed on wet and icy roads.
Police said officers pursued the truck, seeing it cross over the center line repeatedly and finally were able to pull the driver over in the area of Mechanicsville.
Cappel was identified as the driver and a strong odor of alcohol detected from the man's breath.
After failing field sobriety tests, the man was taken to Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street, where a blood test determined he had an alcohol level of 0.16 percent, police said.
In addition, it was determined the vehicle Cappel was driving had an expired inspection sticker, police said.
4 injured in
2-car collision
NEW RINGGOLD - Four people suffered minor injuries when two cars collided on Route 895, Summer Valley Road, in East Brunswick Township, at 5:52 p.m. Sunday.
State police at Frackville said Zachary R. Hayle, 19, of New Ringgold, was driving a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am east and turning into a private driveway when he drove into the path of a 2009 Suzuki SX4 that was being driven west on Route 895 by Lora L. Boyer, 40, of Temple.
The vehicles collided and police said the impact caused the back of the Suzuki to hit a 1993 Chevrolet S-10 that was parked in the driveway.
Police said Hayle, Boyer and two passengers Boyer's vehicle, Melissa Eifert, 42, of New Ringgold, and a 3-year-old Temple girl who was in a child safety seat, all suffered minor injuries.
