Pine Grove organizes charity auction

PINE GROVE - Organizers of the third annual benefit auction for Operation Hugs and Kisses are optimistic for another good turnout for Saturday's event at Pine Grove Hose, Hook and Ladder No. 1.

Operation Hugs and Kisses formed in 2010 after several row home fires.

Last year, about 200 people attended the event that features a live auction on a variety of items for almost everyone.

"We're hoping for at least that turnout again," President of Operation Hugs and Kisses Missy Witherow said Wednesday.

Doors open at 8 a.m. and bidding is from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

More than 500 items are available for auction, such as jewelry and tickets for sporting events, Kathy Schnoke, secretary of the organization, said.

"It doesn't cost them anything to come to the auction," Schnoke said.

Proceeds get reinvested in the Pine Grove and Tremont area, for fire companies or planters for local community projects, Schnoke said.

Individuals and businesses from the county and beyond have donated toward the event.

"We have a lot of support from the community," Schnoke said.
