The snow started falling Monday afternoon and made a mess around Schuylkill County.
"We had reports of vehicles stuck in all areas of the county," a supervisor with the Schuylkill County Communications Center said Monday.
He said most of the accidents were minor with no injuries.
The first call for a crash came in after 4 p.m. for a car that slid off the road on Interstate 81. In Ashland, snow blanketed the roads after 4 p.m. and traffic was slow-going on Route 61 north. Later, Route 61 north was shut down in Pottsville near Pizza Hut due to the slick road conditions.
"It (Route 61 north) got shut down at 5:47 p.m. and reopened at 7:37 p.m.," a representative with the Schuylkill County Communications center said, adding that the road was closed "because it was a parking lot."
One customer was without power in Landingville as of 9 p.m., according to PPL.
Craig Evanego, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, State College, said Monday that snow totals seemed to be in the range of 1 to 3 inches in the county.
He said Tamaqua and Deer Lake each received about 2 inches while a public information statement by the NWS said Saint Clair received 1 inch as of 5:10 p.m. Evanego did not have a snowfall total for Pottsville.
Despite it being the last day before the arrival of spring, today's weather will bring "a few rain or snow showers mainly in the morning," Evanego said, adding that "anything (Tuesday) should be very minimal."
He did say there "could be some lingering slick spots" in the morning.
High temperatures should be in the 40s. Temperatures for the rest of the week should be in the 30s except for Saturday, when they should be in the upper 40s, he said.
Blue Mountain and Schuylkill Haven Area school districts dismissed students early Monday afternoon in anticipation of the snowfall.
A decision on any possible delay or cancellation for students today will be made in the early morning, said Lorraine M. Felker, superintendent for Schuylkill Haven Area.
"We'll see what tomorrow brings," Felker said.
