SAINT CLAIR - The Saint Clair Area school board Wednesday approved post-bid opening certification - called PlanCon F Attachment C - for the district's school building renovation/addition project.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Education, PlanCon F includes construction documents, which review the bid specifications and drawings for the project and documentation that other state and local agency requirements have been met or will be met before entering into construction contracts.

Upon department approval, it also authorizes the district to receive bids and enter into construction contracts.

Superintendent Kendy K. Hinkel said that bids were received at a public meeting Monday, and won't be certified and approved until the 6 p.m. March 14 meeting, to insure the contractors can comply with every part of the bid.

"The rough bid numbers came in at about $8.8 million and the initial estimate was $10.5 million, so we did really well in bid," Hinkel said. "There will be more information forthcoming at the next meeting when we're going to approve and award those bids."

The proposed project will add six classrooms, two special education rooms, a music room, a large instruction room and complete renovation to its elementary/middle school plus add 23 on-site parking spaces, including spaces for the handicapped, which the district currently doesn't have.

It will also add a play yard on the building's roof.
