Although he is on his way to a state prison cell, Samuel T. Steffie will not have to defend against still another set of charges.
Schuylkill County prosecutors decided Monday to withdraw charges of theft, receiving stolen property unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and habitual offender against Steffie, 41, of Schuylkill Haven.
President Judge William E. Baldwin signed an order allowing prosecutors to withdraw the charges but directing Steffie to pay the costs of the case.
Pottsville police had charged Steffie with committing those four crimes on Oct. 14, 2011, in the city.
Steffie already will be spending at least two years in a state correctional institution for two other sets of crimes.
On Monday, Judge Charles M. Miller sentenced him to serve 16 to 23 months behind bars on charges of receiving stolen property and prohibited sale of veterans markers.
Miller made that prison term consecutive to one of eight to 24 months that Judge Jacqueline L. Russell had imposed on March 5 on two counts of selling or furnishing liquor to minors.
Russell had made her sentence concurrent with one of two to 12 months also imposed on March 5 by Judge James P. Goodman on a charge of criminal mischief.
