Tower City Mayor Dan Daub said his well-rounded legislative, business and law enforcement experience make him the ideal candidate to replace the retiring Honorable Carol A. Pankake as magisterial district judge in Tremont.

The former chairman of the Schuylkill County Republican Party has cross-filed and will appear on both the Republican and Democratic ballots during the May 21 primary election.

"I believe my well-rounded experience as a mayor, constable, zoning board member and businessman/administrator have prepared me well to serve our citizens as a magisterial district judge," Daub said in a prepared statement Tuesday. "I make important decisions every day that impact the lives of those I come in contact with. A good judge will pursue justice and be able to do so to bring respect and dignity to our court system so that everyone gets a fair and just decision. My temperament and training are ideally suited to have a positive impact as our next magisterial district judge."

There are seven magisterial districts in Schuylkill County with the one in Tremont covering the largest area. It includes Pine Grove, Tower City and Tremont boroughs and Barry, Branch, Cass, Eldred, Foster, Frailey, Hegins, Hubley, Pine Grove, Porter, Reilly, Tremont, Upper Mahantongo and Washington townships.

In addition to Daub, there are three more candidates seeking the six-year term: Former Tremont Borough Council President Laine Mack; Attorney Keith Hoppes; and Attorney David J. Rossi.

Daub is the administrator at Tremont Health & Rehabilitation Center in Tremont. In addition to serving as mayor and overseeing the police department, Daub said he is very active in the community.

Daub is also a certified State Constable and has served warrants, civil litigation, levies and executions in the local Magisterial District Court system. The 80-hour basic training and annual trainings of the PA Commission on Crime and Delinquency include modules on criminal law and process, and civil law and process.

Daub is also a member and past chair of the Schuylkill County Zoning Hearing Board, presiding over hearings and making important decisions with the board based upon evidence and the law.

Daub is a graduate of Harrisburg Area Community College and Shippensburg University. He has three children, Ronnie, Maddie and Abbey.

"Throughout my life, I have been involved and dedicated to making a better life for our young people," Daub said. "I have coached Little League baseball, soccer and helped many civic organizations and causes. I have been active in my community and in my county, serving on the Medical Advisory Board at McCann School of Business and on the Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce board. I have been involved in political organizations and a leader in my church. If I am fortunate enough to be elected, I will follow the same practices of our most recent successful magistrates and devote myself full-time to this office. Like my predecessors, I would not be an attorney and would not be trying to run a law office while also being a judge. The local Magisterial District Court is the 'People's Court' and it is important to have someone with a wide array of experiences to deal with the many issues you may face."

Daub said anyone interested in helping his campaign can call him at home at 717-647-4527, via email at MayorDanDaub@yahoo.com, or on his Facebook page "Dan Daub for Magisterial District Judge."
