n Millersburg: The Ned Smith Center for Nature and Art has announced the next installment in its 2013 Discovery Lecture Series: History of the Millersburg Ferry, led by longtime ferry pilot Jack Dillman, at 7 p.m. April 11 at the center. Dillman will offer a historical perspective on the iconic ferry, believed to be the last wooden stern-wheel paddle boat in the United States, Alexis Dow Campbell, the center's director of creative programming, said in a press release. Admission is $5 per person. Center members can use their membership coupons to receive half-price admission. n New Philadelphia: The American Cancer Society will sponsor a Look Good … Feel Better makeover workshop from 6 to 8 p.m. April 8 at the Simon Kramer Institute, 15 Alliance St. According to a release, local female cancer patients, who are actively undergoing cancer treatment, will have an opportunity to brighten their day by attending the workshop. During the two-hour session, trained cosmetologists will meet with patients to discuss how to use makeup and accessories to minimize appearance-related side effects of chemotherapy and radiation treatment. It will be in a group setting and also provide participants with cancer education, information and support. Each woman will learn to apply makeup using kits provided by the American Cancer Society's partnership with the Personal Care Products Council Foundation and the National Cosmetology Association. To register, call the American Cancer Society at 800-227-2345 to register. There is no charge for the materials or the workshop.

n Pine Grove: The 38th annual seedling sale sponsored by the Sweet Arrow Lake Conservation Association in partnership with the Schuylkill Conservation District is under way. The order deadline is Thursday. According to a press release from Patrick M. "Porcupine Pat" McKinney, the conservation district environmental education coordinator, the sale, which began in early January, offers landowners options to improve the beauty of their property and enhance wildlife habitat. "Funds raised in this sale directly benefit programs and facilities at Sweet Arrow Lake," he said. The sale offers a wide variety of hardwood seedlings and evergreens for a variety of soil conditions and habitat uses. Evergreens offered include Douglas fir, Colorado blue spruce and Norway spruce, which are excellent ornamentals or Christmas trees and are also good for windbreaks, landscaping and dense screens, according to the release. Hardwoods offered include sawtooth oak, river birch, red bud, American cranberry, arrowwood viburnum, forsythia, silky dogwood, white flowering dogwood and witch hazel, which are trees and shrubs that will compliment any mix of evergreens. n Pottsville: An account has been opened at Union Bank and Trust Co., 115 S. Centre St., to benefit Victoria Place, Minersville, who lost two daughters Sunday in a crash on Route 61 near Orwigsburg. In a release, Lori Mistysyn, the bank's loan operations manager, said contributions can be made at any Union Bank branch office or by mail to: Union Bank and Trust Co., P.O. Box 119, Pottsville, PA 17901. All checks should be made payable to Victoria Place. For more information, call 570-622-9528. Place, who was taken via ambulance to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest - to where her daughters were flown - remains a patient. A fund also has been set up at Sovereign Bank to offset funeral and other costs.

n Shenandoah: The annual Easter egg hunt sponsored by the Shenandoah Area Youth Volunteers is set for 1 p.m. Saturday at Bicentennial Park and the Shenandoah Area Girls' Softball league field in the borough's southeastern section.

n Tamaqua: An open house will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. April 9 in the Early Childhood Center building of St. Jerome Regional School. Pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, first grade and the Lion's Den Little Lions' pre-school will be open for tours. Parents will be able to meet the teachers. Registration for new students will also be held. First-grade students will give iPad and Smartboard demonstrations throughout the evening. Each student in first and second grade will have an iPad for their daily classwork for the 2013-14 school year, according to a St. Jerome press release.
