Students of the month, March 31, 2013

Minersville Area

Minersville Area High School seniors Angela Mason and Ryan King were named students of the month for March.

Angela is senior class secretary and a member of the National Honor Society, yearbook committee, Classics Club, Teens Against Tobacco and German Club. She is also a member of the soccer, cross country and track and fields teams and participated in the annual musical.

In the community, Angela is a Girl Scout and a member of Ss. Peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic Church and an American Red Cross blood donor. A daughter of Michael and Cheryl Mason, Tremont, she plans to attend Shippensburg University and major in accounting.

Ryan is a member of the baseball, football and basketball teams. He had been a member of the SADD and German clubs.

He is a son of Dave and Brenda King, and plans to attend college and major in civil engineering.

Mahanoy Area

Mahanoy Area High School seniors Kendall Peel and Amber Wagner were named students of the month for February by Mahanoy City Elks Lodge 695.

Kendall is a member of the National Honor Society, student council, Bloomsburg Math Contest team, Envirothon, Bear Pride Program, Areascope, art club, Chordaires, Interact Club, Literacy Society, Nutrition Advisory Council, SADD, Teens Against Tobacco and Theatre Arts Club. She is ski club president and choir secretary.

Kendall was a homecoming candidate and participated in the Greater Pottsville Winter Carnival as a junior. She played volleyball and was involved with the French/German Club for two years and was a member of the shop club for one year.

She participated in the St. David's Vocal Competition for three years and was event coordinator for the 2010 Ride for Hope at Swartz Show Horses Barn, Ringtown, to benefit the American Cancer Society. She is a member of the National Society of High School Scholars and of ACTION Youth Group.

Upon graduation, Kendall plans to attend Villanova or St. John's University and major in biochemistry, or St. Joseph's University to major in biology. She is a daughter of Barbara Peel, Mahanoy City.

Amber is a National Honor Society secretary/treasurer, senior class secretary, student council secretary, Theatre Arts Club librarian and cheerleading co-captain. She is a member of the Bear Pride Program, Areascope, choir, Chordaires, Interact Club, Literary Society, Nutrition Advisory Council, SADD, Teens Against Tobacco and track and field team.

Amber was a homecoming candidate and PSDA Youth Delegate Conference participant and attended the Anti-Defamation League Youth Leadership Conference.

Upon graduation, Amber plans to attend Bloomsburg University and major in biology. She is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Darren Wagner, Barnesville.

Mahanoy Middle

Liam Mansell and Peter Osifat were named students of the month for February by Mahanoy Area Middle School faculty through a program sponsored by Mahanoy City Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 695.

Liam is a son of William and Kathleen Mansell, Barnesville. He is a member of St. Richard Roman Catholic Church, Barnesville, where he is an altar server and member of the ACTION Youth Group.

A distinguished honor student, Liam is involved in seventh- and eighth-grade football and wrestling, swim team, track and field team, Theatre Arts, ski club, student council and National Junior Honor Society. He volunteers at church functions and the Mahanoy Area Biddy Wrestling Tournament.

Liam's future plans are to attend Penn State University and major in engineering.

Peter is a son of Frederick and Kristin, Barnesville. He is a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Quakake.

A distinguished honor student, Peter is a member of the ski club and National Junior Honor Society.

He volunteers as a junior instructor at USA Martial Arts and various community projects with Boy Scout Troop 725.

Peter plans to attend culinary school in the future.
