A Berks County man went to prison March 28 after being sentenced in Schuylkill County Court following revocation of his probation.
Ethan C. Madeira, 23, of Bernville, must serve four to 23 months behind bars, President Judge William E. Baldwin ruled.
"You just completely ignored the responsibilities of your probation here," Baldwin told Madeira before imposing the sentence.
Madeira admitted violating his probation by committing a new crime, not reporting to his supervising officer, not performing community service and not making payments on his costs and restitution.
He originally pleaded guilty on Jan. 19, 2011, to retail theft and receiving stolen property, with prosecutors withdrawing a charge of conspiracy. Baldwin accepted his plea and sentenced him to spend 12 months on probation and pay costs, $50 to the Criminal Justice Enhancement Account and $164.91 restitution.
Rush Township police had charged Madeira with committing the theft on Sept. 2, 2009, in the township.
Also in the county court, prosecutors withdrew criminal charges against three defendants.
Frank W. Oshinsky IV, 36, of Collegeville, had been charged with simple assault. Pottsville police had alleged he committed the assault on May 31, 2012, in the city.
Travis S. Reichert, 24, of Pottsville, also had been charged with simple assault. Pottsville police had alleged he committed the assault on Nov. 7, 2012, in the city.
Shannon L. Meyer, 31, of Pottsville, had been charged with two counts of theft by deception and one each of theft and receiving stolen property in one case and two counts each of aggravated assault and simple assault and one each of terroristic threats, possessing an instrument of crime, prohibited possession of offensive weapon and recklessly endangering another person in the other.
Ashland police field both sets of charges against Moyer, alleging she committed the assault on Aug. 4, 2012, and the theft on Sept. 22, 2012, both in the borough.
In each case, Baldwin entered an order allowing prosecutors to withdraw the charges and directing the defendant to pay the costs of the case.
In other recent Schuylkill County Court action, Baldwin accepted guilty pleas from, and, pursuant to agreements between prosecutors and defendants, imposed the indicated sentences on, these people:
Jeffrey A. Verbash, 48, of Frackville; possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia; sentencing deferred until 9:15 a.m. May 8 pending preparation of a presentence investigation.
Stephanie M. White, 32, of Minersville; delivery of a controlled substance; six to 23 months in prison, $100 SAEF payment, $176 restitution to the state police crime laboratory in Bethlehem and submission of a DNA sample to law enforcement authorities. Prosecutors withdrew a charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.
Frederick A. Yeastedt, 30, of Saint Clair; two counts of simple assault; 12 months probation, $50 CJEA payment and 20 hours community service. Prosecutors withdrew one count of aggravated assault and two of harassment.
In county court on Wednesday, a Saint Clair woman is headed to prison after being sentenced on a driving under the influence charge.
Claudette Hepler, 51, must serve four months to five years behind bars under the terms of Baldwin's sentence.
Baldwin also sentenced Hepler to pay costs, $1,525 in fines and $300 to the Substance Abuse Education Fund.
Hepler pleaded guilty on Feb. 20 to DUI and careless driving.
Saint Clair police had charged her with DUI on Aug. 11, 2012, in the borough.
