n Hamburg: People are invited to a car meet set for noon Saturday in the parking lot of Cabela's to benefit Catrina Williams and Carianna Kroh, Minersville, who died as the result of a crash on Route 61 last month. Tyler Lengel, 18, of Minersville, came up with the idea for the benefit. Food and beverages will be on sale as will raffles for a variety of items, including a diamond necklace, according to Cyndi Pellish, Minersville, Tyler's mother. The necklace was donated by a local business. All proceeds will benefit the family of the girls. Everyone is welcome to attend.
n Pottsville: John Albertini of PC Sentry Computer Consulting recently gave his presentation talk to members of the Pottsville Rotary Club. Originally from Port Carbon, Albertini is a graduate of Pottsville Area High School and resides in Pottsville with his wife, Amanda, and three children, according to the Rotary Bulletin. After graduating from high school, he spent eight years in the Navy, where he worked with computers and electronics. Among his experiences in the Navy are working on the same computer system that powered the Apollo space program, working in the Persian Gulf in the late 1980s and then being stationed in Virginia Beach. While in Virginia, he earned a bachelor's degree at St. Leo University. He then earned a master's degree in business from Penn State in 1995. He worked in Pittsburgh for a spell and then he and his wife moved to Pottsville in 1996. He worked as a stock broker and then in the banking industry. In 2004, he launched his own company, which provides computer security and auditing services including implementing security programs and safeguards in networks and systems and helping businesses and organizations comply with government regulations. PC Sentry is a full service-company, he said, offering service plans, protection from viruses, 24/7 monitoring, tech support, online backup and other services.

n Pottsville: Schuylkill County Sheriff Joseph G. Groody announced his office at the county courthouse will have extended hours and days regarding licenses to carry firearms as follows: 8:30 a.m. to noon April 13 and Aug. 17 and 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. May 16 and Sept. 12. On those days, Groody said in the release, "we will be accepting applications for license to carry firearms for renewal or new applicants." The office's normal hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. "To better serve county residents, I will continue to offer office hours on announced Thursdays and Saturdays to accommodate law-abiding citizens an opportunity to apply" for licenses, Groody said in the release. The fee for the license is $20 payable by check or money order, not cash, on the special extended-hours days. Checks must be made out to Schuylkill County Treasurer. Cash is accepted only during the normal office hours. Applications can be found online at: http://www.co.schuylkill.pa.us/Offices/Sheriff/index.asp. Current license holders can only renew up to 60 days before their expiration date. Applicants must be 21 or older and will need a primary identification such as a valid Pennsylvania divers license or current Pennsylvania Identification Card bearing the applicant's current address. Applicants must also have two references (not family members) - with full names, full addresses and phone numbers. Applications will be processed and permits will be mailed to the applicant's home address.
n Ringtown: Applications are available for the annual Ringtown Area Lions Club Scholarship, according to a club press release. High school students graduating in and living within the geographical boundaries of the club charter - addresses with the 17967 and 17985 zip codes - are eligible to apply. To be considered, candidates must submit a completed application to the scholarship committee on or before May 1. Interested students must mail a written request for an application to the committee chairwoman, Sandra Fetterman, 123 Aristes Road, Ringtown, PA 17967.
