Grating stolen in state forest

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN - State police at Schuylkill Haven are investigating a theft off Panther Valley Road to the Weiser State Forest in Wayne Township between noon Monday and 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Police said someone stole a 6-foot-by-6-foot galvanized steel grating that has rectangular openings of about 1 inch by 3 inches and weights about 500 pounds.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 570-593-2000.

Police announce safety effort

Police from Rush Township, Frackville, Schuylkill Haven and Minersville announced Friday that seat belt enforcement activities as part of a teen driver safety enforcement mobilization will begin Tuesday and continue through March 4.

The law enforcement activities will be conducted during the three-week mobilization on and around high school campuses and on other roadways throughout the municipalities of participating departments.

On Tuesday, Rush Township police will be at Marian High School during morning arrival hours; Frackville police will be at North Schuylkill High School during the morning hours and will start enforcement at 2:23 p.m.; and Minersville police will be at Minersville Area High School.

On Wednesday, Schuylkill Haven police will be at Schuylkill Haven Area High School between 2 and 4 p.m.

This enforcement, coupled with educational outreach efforts, is designed to raise awareness of the teen driver law that went into effect Dec. 27, 2011.

Game system stolen from home

TOWER CITY - Someone stole an Xbox 360 black tower and a white and black controller from a residence in Tower City.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said the theft occurred Jan. 23 at 125 E. Grand Ave. to Crystal Rausch, Tower City. The items had been plugged into the side of a television before the theft that occurred between 6 and 7 a.m.

Police did not say how the individual entered the residence.

Anyone with information is asked to call state police at Schuylkill Haven at 570-593-2000.

Cressona woman faces charges

CRESSONA - A borough resident faces charges after allegedly providing marijuana and smoking it with a juvenile.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Marisol Viera, Cressona, no age provided, furnished a 16-year-old from Sinking Spring with marijuana at 60 S. Schuylkill St. between Jan. 15 and 16.

Charges of endangering the welfare of children and corruption were filed in the office of Magisterial District Judge James R. Ferrier, Orwigsburg.

Blue Mtn. student faces charges

ORWIGSBURG - Two high school students from Blue Mountain got into an argument that turned physical Thursday.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said a 17-year-old juvenile and an 18-year-old had an argument Thursday that eventually resulted in the juvenile punching the unnamed 18-year-old Schuylkill Haven resident in the face. The incident occurred between 1:15 and 1:20 p.m. in the high school cafeteria.

Police said charges will be filed in the office of Magisterial District Judge James R. Ferrier, Orwigsburg. No additional information was provided by police.
