Pottsville Rotary
Pottsville Rotary announc-ed students of the month for February.
Jeanette Tropp and Rachel Renninger represented Nativity BVM High School and Kathleen Burke and Stanley Burke represented Pottsville Area High School.
Jeanette is a daughter of John and Jodi Tropp, Pottsville. She attends St. Matthew the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, Minersville, where she is an altar server and volunteers at church picnics. A student ambassador, she is involved in cross-country, track, Interact Club, chorus and the science and French clubs.
Jeanette plans to attend Lebanon Valley College, Annville, and pursue a degree in history.
Rachel is proud to be a third-generation student at Nativity, and her years at Nativity have been very special to her. She has been an altar server at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, Minersville, for several years.
Rachel has participated in cheerleading and track and field and has been a member of the art and Interact clubs. She was a homecoming court princess this year.
Rachel has been interviewed on WYCN News and WPAM radio regarding her positive experiences in high school. She plans to attend Penn State University and major in pre-law.
Kathleen is a daughter of Stanley and Mary Burke, Pottsville. She is a member of the National Honor Society and honor roll and a four-year member of the marching and concert bands and the golf team.
Kathleen is also a member of the pep band, Christmas Brass, drama club and prom committee. She is also stage manager.
Kathleen won second place in the All-Girls League Golf Tournament and won the Heart and Soul Drama Award in 2012. She plays in the Third Brigade Band.
She plans to major in graphic design and computer sciences in college.
Stanley is a son of Stanley and Mary Burke, Pottsville. He is National Honor Society vice president and a member of the honor roll. He has also won the Dwight D. Eisenhower Award.
Stanley is a four-year member of the concert and marching bands and a member of student council. He was a three-year member of the football team, including being captain his senior year, and a four-year member of the wrestling team, including being captain his junior and senior years.
He plans to study chemical engineering in college.
Milton Hershey
Jessica Bell, daughter of Terri Bell, Pottsville, and a junior at Milton Hershey School, was named March scholar of the month by the school's administration. She enrolled at MHS in 2008 as a seventh-grader.
Academically, Jessica is consistently listed on the school's distinguished honor roll and has excelled in the area of effort and conduct earning honor roll status. She also is a member of the National Honor Society and the Student Government Association.
Jessica's sports involvement include soccer, cross country, winter and spring track and field hockey.
Her goal is to become a surgeon.
