MOUNT CARBON - The traffic signal mast arm knocked down in a traffic accident in North Manheim Township in January has finally been repaired.

Lisa Mahall, engineer and real estate director for Schuylkill County, said Wednesday morning that repairs were expected to be completed Wednesday.

"They're probably working on it as we speak," Mahall said about 11 a.m.

According to newspaper archives, early on Jan. 22, a truck owned by Weiner Iron & Metal Corp., Pottsville, knocked down the mast arm holding traffic lights on Route 61 at Mount Carbon Arch Road in North Manheim Township.

Mahall said previously that the county was responsible for the maintenance of the light and the company the county contracts with to repair its lights, Signal Service Inc., West Chester, had it on order with delivery for the end of March.

Normally, Signal Service had the parts in their inventory, but their last two were used elsewhere.

Temporary lights were put up on poles for southbound traffic.

Mahall didn't know the cost of the repairs but she said that she will know once she receives an invoice for the work.

Although the county was responsible to make the repairs, Mahall said Weiner will be responsible for the cost of the repairs.

"Their insurance company has already been contacted and they're just waiting for the invoice," Mahall said.
