SHERIDAN - A 64-year-old Tower City woman died when the SUV she was driving collided head-on with a truck Thursday afternoon on Route 209 in Porter Township.
Linda Rickert was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:23 p.m. by Schuylkill County Deputy Coroner Joseph S. Pothering of Minersville.
Pothering said a virtual autopsy will be conducted on Rickert to determine what injuries she succumbed to.
The driver of the 2009 Ford F-750 was identified as Glenn W. Goss, 60, of Mcveytown. Goss was taken by ambulance to Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center for treatment of nonlife-threatening injuries.
A passenger in the truck, Joey F. Booher, 41, also of Mcveytown, was not injured and refused medical treatment, police said. Rickert, Goss and Booher were wearing seat belts.
State police Trooper Thomas J. Finn of the Schuylkill Haven station said the crash occurred at 12:32 p.m. in front of Barnhardt's Auto Repair at 617 E. Grand Ave.
Finn said Rickert was driving north when for some reason, she crossed over the center double line of the road and collided head-on with the southbound truck driven by Goss.
After the impact, Rickert's SUV came to a stop partially in her lane and on the northbound berm of the highway while the truck came to a stop partially in the southbound lane and on the southbound berm.
Pieces of metal, plastic and other debris from the woman's vehicle were strewn along the highway and the truck had its hood and front bumper torn off.
Goss was pulling a trailer carrying a wooden utility pole that remained fastened to the trailer.
Finn said Williamstown EMS, Tower City EMS, West Schuylkill ALS and Sheridan firefighters and fire police assisted at the scene.
Route 209, in both directions, was closed for about 3 1/2 hours while police completed their investigation and had the vehicles towed away.
