McADOO - The borough council is hoping to revitalize the crime watch program by getting more people involved.
Council members Marion DeBalko, Clara Preputnick and John Shigo, who are on council's police committee, will co-chair the McAdoo Neighborhood Crime Watch. The committee will work in conjunction with borough police.
"Hopefully, it will work," DeBalko said at Tuesday's council meeting, referring to past attempts at a community-wide crime watch.
"Everyone else seems to be getting involved with crime watch programs in other communities, so I would like to see it happen here."
The committee has scheduled a crime watch start-up meeting for 7 p.m. April 25 at the borough building, 23 N. Hancock St.
"We're hoping a big crowd will show up," DeBalko said.
In other news, the council agreed to the requests submitted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6708 for its annual Memorial Day parade and festivities.
The borough also approved a $75 annual donation toward the parade.
The council is discussing establishing a quality of life ordinance, according to DeBalko and Shigo. The ordinance will be patterned after Hazleton's, DeBalko said.
Council also voted to waive a $70 permit fee for Thomas Wisniewski, who bought the former Passno property next to the McAdoo Post Office.
A fire caused heavy damage to the property in 1998. Wisniewski purchased it in recent years and plans to demolish what remains.
