On Tuesday, six Schuylkill County restaurants will help raise funding for Schuylkill Wellness Services during the annual Fine Dining For A Cause event.
Each of the participating restaurants will be donating 20 percent of the evening's food receipts to SWS, 512 N. Centre St., Pottsville, a participating United Way agency, which provides prevention education and case management for HIV and HIV/STD screenings.
The participating restaurants include Vito's Coal-Fired Restaurant, Saint Clair; The Brick House Grill, Orwigsburg; The Greystone Restaurant, Pottsville; Roman Delight Restaurant, Orwigsburg; Francesco's Ristorante, Shenandoah; and Oak Hill Inn, Orwigsburg.
While the event had seven restaurants participating last year, Roman Delight Restaurant and Francesco's Ristorante are two new additions this year.
Marian Donlin, administrative assistant at Schuylkill Wellness Services, said that they are hoping to raise $10,000 this year.
"We're hoping to raise $10,000 but we are grateful for whatever is raised for our agency," Donlin said.
Donlin said that the agency, which is a program unit of Co-County Wellness Services, Reading, was founded in 1997.
The Pottsville location provides services to between 5,000 and 7,000 people in the county a year.
It has an STD clinic, provides testing for STDs and HIV, and provides prevention education in the community with basic informational programs, individual risk reduction counseling, group risk reduction counseling and condom distribution.
Services also include support groups and client services for those that are HIV positive or affected by HIV.
All services are free and confidential.
"This is basically our only major fundraiser for our agency during the year at this point and time," Donlin said. "It's a way for people to be a participant in bringing awareness and help for a good cause."
There will also be a Dine Out for a Good Cause Raffle with a grand prize of $1,000 cash, a second prize of a full-day rental at Barefield Park in Pottsville, a $500 value; a third prize of a Lowe's gift card valued at $250 and a fourth prize of a two-day and one-night mid-week stay at Cove Haven Resorts in the Poconos.
Raffles are $3 each or four for $10.
