ORWIGSBURG - A benefit performance will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Blue Mountain High School to benefit the Orwigsburg Area Free Public Library.
For $5, people can enjoy dancing by Crystal's School of Dance, songs by the Schuylkill Choral Society and a presentation by the Blue Mountain High School Drama Club.
"They will all be singing about books that made it to Broadway," Claudia Gross, director of the library, said of the choral society.
Door prizes will be given out and a raffle item will be available, as well as food and drinks.
Songs that will be performed are from plays including "Guys and Dolls," "Cats," "My Fair Lady" and "Phantom of the Opera."
The first half of the event will be oriented towards singing, followed by an intermission and then dancing.
Gross said the idea for the inaugural event originated from herself and Lynette Moyer, library director of the Schuylkill Haven Free Public Library.
Moyer is a member of the choral society, Gross said.
Both Gross and Kelly Coldren, who is an instructor at Crystal's, organized the event, Gross said. She added, "The support has been overwhelming" about donations.
All proceeds will benefit the Orwigsburg library.
"Every penny counts and will be put back into the community," she said.
On why people should attend, Gross said, "Because it's good, clean family fun and it supports the library."
