RINGTOWN - Six sections of borough streets are on this year's road program, with the work to be done depending on the bids that will be received.
Borough Foreman Scott Schuetrum during Monday's council meeting provided a rough estimate of the costs on the paving project.
"We did not figure into the price at this time the cost to widen East and West Apple street," said Schuetrum. "After meeting with our PennDOT municipal representative John Davis on liquid fuels, he said he would not be able to give us an estimate on the widening at this time because there are too many variables within the scope of work."
Schuetrum said the advice was to get borough engineer Jacqueline Peleschak involved to determine construction easements that will be needed during the construction phase. Council President Julian Milewski, a Republican-Herald employee, said the easements are not needed for the road itself since what would be paved is in the borough's cartway.
Responding to Milewski's question on a timeline, Schuetrum said the specifications to advertise for bidding could be ready by the next council meeting.
The following streets are on the proposed road program, depending on available funds:
East Cherry Street from North Fourth to North Third; East Cherry Street from North Third to North Second; North Third Street from East Main to East Wood; Fifteenth Street from State Route 4033 Bridge Street to the borough line; East Apple Street from South Center Street to State Route 4037 South Fourth Street; West Apple Street from South Market to South Center streets.
Milewski said the state liquid fuels allotment has been received by the borough at $72,521, which is raised through state fuel taxes and distributed to municipalities annually for construction and maintenance of roads and other related expenses. Milewski said $9,500 will be used for payment on a borough truck.
In his report, Mayor Albert Breznik Jr. said five juveniles and one adult were caught trespassing multiple times in the former elementary school, which is owned by the borough. Breznik said charges will be filed and added that access was made through an outside door that was not locked. Milewski said groups who use the building must make sure the doors are locked when everyone leaves.
Patrolman Adam J. Bernodin Jr. said a lock on an inside door was damaged. Milewski said the door has been repaired and no other damage occurred.
