Charges filed in Washington Township assault, robbery

PINE GROVE - A 22-year-old Wayne Township man was jailed Wednesday, charged with assaulting another man, threatening to shoot him and then robbing him in Washington Township early Tuesday morning.

State police Trooper Chad Smith of the Schuylkill Haven station charged Nikolis Ben Chyat, Moonhill Road, with robbery and related offenses. He was taken into custody Wednesday on a warrant and arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Carol A. Pankake, Tremont.

Chyat was then committed to Schuylkill County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail which he posted Wednesday evening.

Smith said the incident occurred between 12:01 and 4 a.m. Tuesday when Chyat drove Kyle Lombel, 20, also of Moonhill Road, Schuylkill Haven, to the area of Martins Road and Birdshill Road in Washington Township, pulled him out of the vehicle and proceeded to punch him in the face numerous times.

While he was assaulting Lombel, Smith said Chyat had the victim feel a firearm he was carrying and after that told Lombel he was going to have him walk away and then shoot him.

Chyat then took Lombel's shoes and took his backpack that contained about $650 in personal belongings, Smith said.

Chyat then left the scene and Lombel contacted authorities, Smith said, adding that a warrant for Chyat's arrest was later obtained from Judge Pankake.
