Stephen J. Bayer
TAMAQUA - A 59-year-old Tamaqua man charged with stealing a laptop computer and a backpack of another man at Freddy's Pub on Mauch Chunk Street on Jan. 6 had charges against him held for court during a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Stephen J. Bayer.
Dennis Potwin, 222 E. Broad St., Apt. 1201, was arrested by Tamaqua police Patrolman Michael Hobbs and charged with one count each of receiving stolen property and theft of property lost or mislaid. Bayer determined the Commonwealth proved a prima facie case and ordered both charges against Potwin held for Schuylkill County Court.
Hobbs charged Potwin with taking a Toshiba laptop computer valued at $398 and the backpack it was in, valued at $60, and owned by Aaron Conahan, who laid it on a table while at the business.
Four days later, Hobbs said Potwin was confronted by Conahan, and Potwin gave the backpack back without the computer.

Russell J. Gernert, 32, of Schuylkill County Prison, Pottsville - held for court: possession of a firearm prohibited, firearms not to be carried without a license, DUI, DUI-highest rate, DUI-controlled substance, and obedience to traffic control signals. Dismissed: receiving stolen property.
Andrew M. McGuinness, no age available, of 115 W. Rowe St., Apt. 4, Tamaqua - waived for court: possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana.
Justin M. Neff, 26, of 119 Pine St., Apt. 3, Tamaqua - waived for court: theft and receiving stolen property.
Joseph J. Nacke, 47, of 126 Penn St., Tamaqua - waived for court: DUI-controlled substance.
Brandon B. Leslie, 24, of 310 E. Snyder Ave., Lansford - dismissed: retail theft.
Dennis O. Tomlin, 56, of 285 Lofty Road, McAdoo - waived for court: DUI and DUI-highest rate.
Bryan A. Demshick, 23, of 141 S. Hancock St., McAdoo - withdrawn: simple assault and harassment. Waived for court: possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Ryan M. Redmond, 19, of 822 Haas Court, Pottsville - withdrawn: possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Stephen W. Jaskierski, 49, of 309 S. Broad Mountain Ave., Frackville - waived for court: DUI, DUI-highest rate and exceeding the speed limit.
