A 39-year-old Mahanoy City man charged with causing a crash that killed a Mahanoy Area School District teacher last year is among those scheduled to plead not guilty Monday during arraignment in Schuylkill County Court.
Edward C. O'Boyle, 315 W. Market St., was arrested by state police Trooper Michael Marinchak of the Frackville station and charged with involuntary manslaughter, homicide by vehicle while DUI, homicide by vehicle, DUI, DUI-highest rate, failure to drive on roadways laned for traffic and failure to use seat belts.
Marinchak charged O'Boyle with causing a Sept. 18 crash that claimed the life of Jeffrey A. Donnelly, 51, of Barnesville, in Ryan Township.
Marinchak said O'Boyle was driving a 1994 Jeep Cherokee Sport west when he crossed into the oncoming lane while traveling uphill and negotiating a right curve. He collided head-on with the 2006 Suzuki motorcycle being driven east by Donnelly in the eastbound lane.
After the crash, both vehicles traveled off the road and came to a stop on the shoulder, where both Donnelly and his motorcycle were found partially under the front of the O'Boyle vehicle, Marinchak said.
It was later determined that O'Boyle's alcohol level was above the legal limit, Marinchak said.
