SHOEMAKERSVILLE - Three men have been arrested in connection with a homicide in this Berks County community.
The state police Troop L Major Case Team, Reading, said Stephen Leibensperger, 49, was killed Monday during a theft at his home between 10:30 and 11:30 a.m.
He was the son of S. Regnal Leibensperger, who owned and operated the Deer Lake Inn until retiring in 2005.
An autopsy determined Leibensperger was stabbed in the chest, the Berks County Coroner's Office said.
Police said Michael T. Walker, 29, of Hamburg, was arrested about 3 a.m. Tuesday in connection with the killing. He was found inside a room at Rodeway Inn in Muhlenberg Township.
Police said they forced their way into the room and took Walker into custody after he refused to open the door.
Then, about 4 p.m. Wed-nesday, police said a second person, Mark Ellis, Reading, was taken into custody in Philadelphia.
Both men were arraigned and committed to Berks County Prison without bail, police said.
About 6 p.m. Thursday, police said, Brandon Simpkins, 21, was arrested in Philadelphia after he surrendered to police following a daylong search of numerous residences.
The searches in Philadelphia and Reading were conducted by troopers from the state police Fugitive Task Force.
Simpkins was being returned to Berks County late Thursday to be arraigned on charges related to the homicide.
Police released no further information about the killing other than to say that the robbery and jealousy are possible motives.
Reports indicated $12,000 and two guns were stolen from Leibensperger's home.
