n Shenandoah: The Shenandoah Valley High School Student Council and Youth Conference Team will sponsor a "Peace Pole" dedication at 1 p.m. Friday (rain date April 30). The pole will be erected outside the high school gymnasium and a flag ceremony will be conducted to "recognize all countries that share the dream of having a world free of war and were peace abounds," according to a bulletin announcement. The public is invited to participate.
n Orwigsburg: Schaeffer's Harley-Davidson and Deer Lake Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.) are preparing for two major events in support of the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The MDA Block Party and Chinese Auction will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 28 at Schaeffer's Harley-Davidson. The block party will have a country western theme this year. There will be carnival games, food and even some line dancing. All proceeds from this event stay in our area to help local children and adults suffering from Muscular Dystrophy. The Annual MDA Golf Tournament will be held May 12 at Hidden Valley Golf Course, Friedensburg. There will be two starting times, in the morning and the afternoon. n Shenandoah: The Shenandoah Rotary Club is sponsoring a program of providing American flags in honor of relatives or friends who are serving or have served in the armed forces. The cost is $20 per flag and the banners will be displayed in the borough starting Memorial Day weekend. They will then be flown in the borough for significant holidays throughout the year, Rotary spokeswoman Mary Ann Link said in a press release. Those who buy flags will receive certificates from the Rotary acknowledging the memory or honor contribution.
