n Gordon: President Ray Umlauf opened a recent meeting of the Gordon Area Senior Citizens in the municipal building, during which members participated in an Easter bonnet parade. Each participant received a prize. Chaplain Betty Miller led recitation of a prayer and members also played games. The seniors meet weekly on Wednesdays. New members are welcome. n Pottsville: The Hershey Youth Track & Field Local Qualifier is set for 1:30 p.m. May 6 at the Pottsville Area School District's Veterans' Memorial Stadium for girls and boys ages 5 through 14 from the Pottsville Area, Saint Clair Area and Minersville Area school districts. Winners 9 through 14 years old will advance to Hershey's Track and Field District Meet. n Pottsville: Schuylkill Veterinary Hospital will sponsor a free public seminar on pet first aid at 7:30 p.m. April 26 at the Canine Learning Center, Route 61. New Ringgold resident Diane Buhl, a lifelong pet advocate, will present instructions on what to do in case of a minor or major emergency with pets. Buhl is the manager of Animal Rescue League of Berks County and the deputy coordinator for the Schuylkill County Animal Response Team. Although admission is free, seating will be limited so those interested should make reservations by calling 570-622-1098.
n Shenandoah: The Polish American Fire Company's annual block party will be held July 6-8 on North West Street between Centre and Lloyd streets. There will be no parking from 3 to 10 p.m. July 6 along the 100 and 200 blocks of West Centre Street, the first block of South West Street and the first and 100 blocks of South Chestnut Street to park the emergency vehicles participating in the annual truck parade. The borough council gave its approval for the event at its February meeting.
