City man jailed after incident

A 22-year-old Pottsville man was committed to Schuylkill County Prison after an incident involving a gun at the Coney Island restaurant, 2290 W. Market St. about 5 p.m. Thursday, police said.

Pottsville police said Daniel Maisonet was arraigned on charges of terroristic threats, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and persistent disorderly conduct and committed to prison unable to post $15,000 bail set by Magisterial District Judge James K. Reiley.

Police said Maisonet went to the restaurant to confront the owner, Menelaos Palles, who is also his landlord, about a security deposit. After a verbal confrontation, police said Maisonet told Palles he was going to get a gun and left the business to return to his car. While the man was at his car, Palles saw him get a gun out and put it in his waistband, police said.

Officers arrived and seized the 40mm Glock handgun from Maisonet before he was able to return to the restaurant, police said.
