Anyone looking to add a twist to their Thursday can do so with a free pretzel from the Philly Pretzel Factory.

In honor of National Pretzel Day on Thursday, Philly Pretzel Factory will be giving a free pretzel to every customer who enters the store.

With more than 120 stores across the nation participating in the event, even the Saint Clair store at 400 Terry Rich Blvd. in Coal Creek Center will be celebrating the unofficial holiday.

Founded in 1983, National Pretzel Day was created when Rep. Robert S. Walker declared his favorite food was deserving of a holiday.

In April 2003, Gov. Ed Rendell declared the unofficial national holiday.

"As the world's largest Philly-style bakery, Philly Pretzel bakes fresh, delicious soft pretzels delivered to customers 'Hot Outta The Oven,' " said Brooke Wylie, senior brand communicator for No Limit Media Consulting in Decatur, Ga.

In addition to a free pretzel, the first 100 customers at every location Thursday will receive a voucher for a free pretzel every day for the month of May.

Wylie said that in conjunction with National Pretzel Day, the CEO and co-founder of Philly Pretzel Factory, Dan DiZio, will be appearing on CBS's reality show Undercover Boss at 8 p.m. Friday.

During the episode, DiZio leaves his office at the store headquarters and goes to work in disguise within the locations.

He will be on a mission to improve the brand by working side-by-side with the pretzel makers and management.
