n Millersburg: The Ned Smith Center for Nature and Art will holds its first golf classic June 14 at Colonial Golf and Tennis Club, 4901 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg. In a press release from Alexis Dow Campbell, the center's director of creative programming, said Cecil Matthew Roberts, chairman of the golf classic planning committee, said "We are always looking for new ways to raise awareness and funds for the center's education programs and a golf tournament will be a great outlet for reaching new audiences and engaging new friends." Golfers may register as individuals or gather friends for a foursome. The tourney will also have raffles, prizes, giveaways and food. The hole-in-one prize is a new car, courtesy of Bobby Rahal Automotive Group. The tournament format will be "handicapped scramble." Tourney sponsorships also are available. Registration is $125 per golfer and $500 per foursome. Guest tickets are available for the cocktail and dinner reception. n Pottsville: David J. Dutcavich, Schuylkill County prothonotary, recently released the following report for March: County remittance, $51,299.18; new civil actions, 203; new divorces started, 37; divorces granted, 30; passports processed, 196; state remittance, $7,164.60.

n Ringtown: The Ringtown Area Library will host free toddler and preschool storytime sessions through May 21. Preschool storytime, for ages 3 to 5, are held at 11:15 a.m. Mondays through May 21. Toddlertime for ages 18 to 36 months will be held at 11:15 a.m. Thursdays on May 3, 17 and 31. Children must be accompanied by an adult. All local families with preschool-age children are invited to participate. The programs let children socialize with other children and gain essential pre-reading skills. The library will celebrate the PA One Book Every Young Child Initiative on April 30 and May 3 by reading the 2012 book selection, "Stop Snoring Bernard," by Zachariah O'hora. All families who attend will receive a free gift. Advance registration at the library, 132 W. Main St., is advised.

n Shenandoah: Dedication of a "Peace Pole" is set to go at 1 p.m. today outside the Shenandoah Valley High School gymnasium, sponsored by the student council and youth conference team. A flag ceremony will be conducted to "recognize all countries that share the dream of having a world free of war and where peace abounds," according to a school district announcement. The public is urged to attend and participate.

n Shenandoah: The Shenandoah Area Catholic Youth Group will sell cakes, cookies and other baked goods Saturday and Sunday after all of the Masses for all parishes. The Devine Mercy Chaplet and rosary recitation at 3 p.m. Fridays has resumed in the Father Walter J. Ciszek Chapel, 231 N. Jardin St., adjacent to St. Casimir Roman Catholic Church. The devotion is led by Bernardine Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis and their associates. Everyone is welcome to participate.

n Tamaqua: After eliminating the three sports programs during the recent meeting, the Tamaqua Area school board rescinded its appointment of Joshua Shilko as head golf coach for the 2012-13 school year. Meanwhile, James McCabe submitted his resignation as head wrestling coach and the board accepted it. Six coaches were appointed by the board for 2012-13: Casmir Kosciolek, Nesquehoning, head boys' basketball coach; Joseph Dietz, Lehighton, junior varsity boys' basketball coach; Michael Murphy, freshmen boys' basketball coach; Brad Hurley, Jim Thorpe, eighth-grade boys' basketball coach; Joseph Berezwick, Tamaqua, head girls' basketball and eighth-grade girls' coach, and Ashley Stanek, head swimming coach. The board also appointed Louise A. Pilla, Nesquehoning, and Christine Kostecky, Tamaqua, as substitute health room assistants. The board removed three others from positions for not submitting necessary documents. They are Dr. Peter Baddick, Tamaqua, adult game worker; Cody Brode, Tamaqua, volunteer assistant track and field coach, and Eammon Farley, Norristown, volunteer assistant swimming coach.
