Pine Grove Area

Twenty-one members of the Pine Grove Area chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America and the chapter adviser, Renee Hughes, attended the 2012 Pennsylvania FBLA State Leadership Conference April 16-18 at the Hershey Lodge and Convention Center, Hershey.

During the conference, Kelsey Hughes and Jess Fath (both FBLA principles and procedures), Dominique Hetrick (accounting I), Adelen Geiger (business law), William Carlin (business math), Ian Lengel (economics), Samantha Howard (hospitality management), Nick Lentz (FBLA principles and procedures), Nick Cataldo (introduction to parliamentary procedure), Tadd Shiffer and Zach Walter (both introduction to technology concepts), Rebecca Moyer and Michelle Lengel (both introduction to business), Lauren Haines (personal finance), Matt Troxell (technology concepts), Jeff Willis (word processing I) and a team of Jeff Bates, John Deibler and Ty Lehman will compete with representatives from other Pennsylvania chapters for top honors in the management decision making event. Other members who will attend the conference include Caitlin Muldowney, PA FBLA state reporter, and Tristan White.

At the awards ceremony, the American Heart Association, the recipient of this year's state project, will be given a monetary contribution to be used toward the organization's programs in Pennsylvania. Other highlights of the conference include individual, chapter, and team competitive events relating to business skills and leadership; the election of a new state officer team; leadership development workshops and recognition of members' community service efforts across the commonwealth. The Outstanding Chapter Award will be presented to a chapter that has conducted outstanding activities in its local chapter program of work, and the Who's Who in PA FBLA awards and William Selden Scholarships will be presented to the top 15 members based on up to four years of involvement with Pennsylvania FBLA.

The Future Business Leaders of America is a national career and technical student organization whose mission is to bring business and education together in a positive working relationship through innovative leadership and career development programs.

The Pine Grove Area High School chapter's 61 members are a part of the Pennsylvania membership of about 13,500 in nearly 280 schools.
