The event, which features Shenandoah's so-called Big 3 commercial kielbasi makers - Capitol Food Market, Kowalonek's Kielbasy and Lucky's Deli - as well as myriad vendors, music and the annual kielbasi contest for private kielbasi makers, drew some 5,000 people to the downtown area in 2011 from throughout Schuylkill County and beyond. It was expanded last year to include two downtown blocks. Participation in the kielbasi contest has even included people from other states. For the 2012 fest, DSI plans to have local authors on hand with their works. For more information, contact DSI, 116 N. Main St., at 570-462-2060. The J.W. The center recently received statewide publicity via The Associated Press for its efforts to transform the old school swimming pool area into an atrium for community relaxation.
