HEGINS - Redner's Markets Inc. may be the latest suitor courting a possible takeover of the former Midway Supermarket on Forest Drive in Hegins.

"We are aggressively pursuing that store and negotiations and lease agreements are on-going," Eric B. White, consumer communications specialist for Redner's, said in a telephone interview.

White refrained from releasing any further details.

Redner's has 39 warehouse markets and 16 quick shoppes throughout Pennsylvania, Maryland and Delaware, including stores in Shenandoah and Schuylkill Haven.

Anyone wishing to offer suggestions about new store locations, or customers with questions, can email the company at info@redners-markets.com, White said.

Redner's, of No. 3 Quarry Road, Reading, is the latest company to weigh the potential of the western Schuylkill County store, which has been closed since early February. Boyer's Food Markets Inc., had also shown interest in the grocery operation.

According to court documents, Midway Supermarket Inc., formerly doing business as Midway Supermarket and Midway Supermarket Pharmacy, filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy on Feb. 4 in Harrisburg with the United States Bankruptcy Court Middle District of Pennsylvania.

On Feb. 1, James W. Sr. and Mary Ann Fetterhoff and family issued a letter to the public that stated at 3 p.m. Feb. 4, Midway Supermarket and Midway Cafe would close forever. The Wells Fargo Bank branch and Forest Drive Pharmacy, formerly known as Midway Pharmacy, would both remain open and accessible, the documents stated at that time.

In the letter, the Fetterhoff family thanked their loyal customers and the community for 37 years of support, and also thanked their employees for their hard work and dedication.
