Police: Thief caught on camera

TAMAQUA - A 24-year-old Tamaqua man was arrested by borough police and charged after an incident at Boyer's Food Mart about 3 p.m. Friday.

Police said Duane Allen, 118 N. Railroad St., was charged with theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property and will now have to answer before Magisterial District Judge Stephen J. Bayer, Tamaqua.

Police said officers were called to the store for a report of a man who took the briefcase of an employee and was captured on security video.

Officers identified the man as Allen who was interviewed and admitted to the theft, police said.

2 charged with disorderly conduct

TAMAQUA - Two men were arrested by Tamaqua police and charged with disorderly conduct after an incident in the area of 214 Pine St. about 2:40 a.m. Friday.

Police said Joshua Shane Generella, Coaldale, and Gary Scott Jr., 25, of Tamaqua, will have to answer to the charges before Magisterial District Judge Stephen J. Bayer, Tamaqua.

Police said the two caused a disturbance in the area and then pushed two people to the ground before fleeing the area.

Police initially charged Joshua O. Generella, New Ringgold, with the crime but withdrew the disorderly conduct charge against him after charging Joshua S. Generella.

Jewelry box taken from home

SHENANDOAH HEIGHTS - State police at Frackville are investigating a burglary that occurred at a home on Schuylkill Avenue in this West Mahanoy Township community between 4:55 and 5:20 p.m. Tuesday.

Police said the resident of the home reported a jewelry box was missing from an upstairs bedroom.

West Mahanoy Township police were not on duty at the time of the incident and police ask that anyone with information to contact them at 570-874-5300.

Woman not hurt in Bethel crash

BETHEL - A 45-year-old Pine Grove woman escaped injury when the 1994 Ford Escort she was driving crashed on Pine Grove Road, just south of Camp Swatara Road in Bethel Township, Berks County, at 7:40 a.m. Tuesday.

State police at Hamburg said Wendy Primeau was driving south when she failed to negotiate a slight curve, causing her car to go off the road and hit an embankment.

The car flipped onto its drivers side and then roof and continued south in the northbound lanes before coming to a stop, police said.

Police said it was raining at the time of the crash and that Bethel firefighters and police assisted at the scene.

2 suffer injuries in Cressona crash

CRESSONA - Two people suffered minor injuries when the 1998 Chevrolet Lumina they were in crashed on the Gordon Nagle Trail, Route 901, just west of Cressona Road in North Manheim Township at 2:55 p.m. Monday.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Christopher B. Yost, 18, of Schuylkill Haven, was driving east when he failed to negotiate a right curve and then swerved into the westbound lane before going off the north side of the road and hitting an embankment.

After hitting the embankment, the car began to spin clockwise and then rolled onto its roof continuing for about 40 feet before coming to a stop, police said.

Yost and his passenger, a 16-year-old Pottsville girl, both suffered minor injuries and were taken to Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street by Pottsville-Schuylkill Haven Area EMS, police said.

Police said that Yost will be cited as a result of the crash and that Mount Carbon and Pottsville firefighters assisted at the scene.

Man injured in 1-car crash

FRIEDENSBURG - An 18-year-old Pine Grove man suffered minor injuries when the 1996 Jeep Cherokee he was driving crashed on Sweet Arrow Lake Road, just west of Church Road in Wayne Township, at 5:14 p.m. Tuesday.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Christopher Schnoke was driving west and when he failed to negotiate a curve, he went through the curve and then traveled sideways, going off the south side of the road and into an empty grass field.

After going into the field, the SUV traveled an additional 25 feet until it overturned two times, traveling an additional 40 feet before coming to a stop on its drivers side.

Schnoke, whom police said will be cited for the crash, was taken to Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street by Pottsville-Schuylkill Haven Area EMS for treatment.

Friedensburg firefighters assisted at the scene, police said.

Haven woman victim of hit-run

MYERSTOWN - A Schuylkill Haven woman escaped injury in a hit and run at 3:30 p.m. Monday on North College Street near Hilltop Road in Jackson Township.

State police at Jonestown said the crash occurred as a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by Maurice E. Umbenhauer, 73, was traveling north on Route 501, north of Hilltop Road.

An unknown vehicle was traveling south on Route 501 and then went into the opposing lane of traffic and sideswiped Umbenhauer's vehicle.

The unknown vehicle fled the scene south on Route 501.

Umbenhauer's vehicle had minor damage to the drivers side mirror and was driven from the scene.

The unknown vehicle was described as a white sedan.
