info on crash
MAHANOY CITY - A man and a 2-year-old boy were injured in a crash at 4:28 p.m. Wednesday on Interstate 81 south at mile marker 127.5 in Ryan Township.
State police at Jonestown said the crash occurred as a 1999 Ford F-350 driven by Terry E. Books, 52, of Newville, with passenger Daxton C. Books, 2, of Newville, was traveling south on I-81 in the left lane.
The vehicle's left front tire blew out, causing Books to lose control of his vehicle.
It traveled off the left side of the roadway, struck an embankment and several trees, then turned over on its roof.
Both were transported to Schuylkill Medical Center-East Norwegian Street by Ryan Township EMS. Police said Terry Books was wearing a seat belt and Daxton Books was in a child safety seat.
No one hurt when
car hits deer
PORT CARBON - A 17-year-old driver and her passenger escaped injury after the car they were in collided with a deer Wednesday on Route 209.
State police at Schuylkill Haven said the accident occurred as the driver, from Tamaqua, and her passenger, Matthew Smulligan, 19, of Andreas, were traveling at 2:55 p.m. in a 1993 Toyota Mr2 north on Route 209, 427 feet west of Austin Drive, East Norwegian Township.
A deer entered the roadway from the east berm, police said, and the driver couldn't avoid striking the deer. Both individuals were wearing seat belts, police said, and the vehicle was towed from the scene.
Man not injured
in Hegins crash
HEGINS - A Valley View man escaped injury Monday morning when his truck sheared a utility pole in Hegins Township, township police said Tuesday.
At 11:15 a.m., Darrell Hetrick, 42, fell asleep at the wheel of his truck and hit the pole in the 1300 block of East Main Street.
The truck sustained disabling damage and was towed, police said.
Change stolen
from vehicle
HEGINS - Hegins Township police are advising residents to lock their vehicles and to avoid keeping valuables in them.
Police said they received a report of change being stolen out of a vehicle between late May 17 and early May 18.
Man charged with
animal cruelty
WILLIAMSTOWN - A borough man was arrested by state police at Lykens and charged with cruelty to animals after an incident to the rear of 314 Vine St. in this Dauphin County community about 11:45 a.m. Sunday.
Police said Patrick Doyle, 211 East St., kicked a dog owned by Crystal Weiss, 312 Vine St., Williamstown.
Doyle will have to answer to the charge before Magisterial District Judge Rebecca Margerum, Elizabethville.
Pine Grove man
faces charges
PINE GROVE - A 25-year-old Pine Grove man was arrested by state police at Schuylkill Haven and charged with disorderly conduct after an incident at 187 Tremont Road in Pine Grove Township about 6:10 p.m. Tuesday.
Police said Ryan Smith will have to answer to the charge before Magisterial District Judge Carol A. Pankake, Tremont.
Police said Smith used unreasonable noise and made threatening comments to William Porras, 23, of Pine Grove, to engage in a fight with him in a public place.
Man charged
with assault
DELANO - A Port Carbon man was committed to Schuylkill County Prison charged by state police at Frackville with assaulting a woman on Interstate 81 in Delano Township at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Police said Christopher John Cuozzo was arraigned on two counts each of simple assault and terrorisitc threats and one count of harassment.
He was committed to prison unable to post $25,000 bail set by Magisterial District Judge James R. Ferrier, Orwigsburg.
Police said Cuozzo became involved in a physical altercation with Patricia Mistishen, also of Port Carbon, during which he struck and choked the woman and then pulled out a knife and threatened to kill her.
Hamburg man
faces DUI charge
HAMBURG - State police at Hamburg arrested a 45-year-old borough man and charged him with DUI after a traffic stop at 41 Industrial Drive in Tilden Township, Berks County, about 12:25 a.m. Wednesday.
Police said they stopped a 1996 Toyota Tacoma driven by Robert E. Geisinger for an equipment violation and found him to be under the influence.
Geisinger will now have to answer to the charge in a Berks County district court, police said.
3 escape injury
in Rt. 901 crash
MAR LIN - No one was injured when two vehicles collided at Route 901 and Maple Avenue in Branch Township about 5:45 p.m. Tuesday.
State police at Schuylkill Haven said Hannah Sterling, 26, of Pottsville, was driving a 2000 Suzuki Vitara west on Route 901 when she went through a red light at the intersection and collided with a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt driven by Michael Brennan, 21, of Pottsville, who began to travel south from Maple Avenue through the intersection toward Kings Village.
Police said both drivers and a passenger in Sterling's vehicle, Krista Stump, 28, also of Pottsville, all escaped injury, adding that Sterling will be cited as a result of the crash.
Minersville EMS assisted at the scene, police said.

The North Central Regional Sobriety Checkpoint DUI Taskforce announced that sobriety checkpoints and roving DUI patrols will be conducted today through Monday on routes 61, 183, 901, 209, 1006, 309, 443, 895, 125,25, 924 and 54.
Travelers are reminded to call 911 if they suspect a drunk driver or to call, toll-free, 888-UNDER21 to report underage drinking.
Auburn man
faces charges
DEER LAKE - A 45-year-old Auburn man is facing charges of DUI after a traffic stop by state police at Schuylkill Haven on Route 61, between Top City and Greenview Drive in North Manheim Township at 7:58 p.m. Wednesday.
Police said they stopped a 1998 Ford Explorer driven by Joe Chrin for speeding and suspected him of being under the influence of alcohol.
After a field sobriety test, police said Chrin was taken to Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street for a blood-alcohol test.
Charges are pending the results of the test, police said.
